a.The Earth is not getting larger or smaller. If there is the production of a new seafloor in the mid-ocean ridge, there is a destruction of an old seafloor at subduction zones.

New crust is continually being pushed away from divergent boundaries (where sea-floor spreading occurs), increasing Earth's surface. But the Earth isn't getting any bigger.
