Many alcoholic drinks are made up mostly of ethanol and water, though the sugar content of certain very sweet liqueurs can be higher than the ethanol content. The fermentation of carbohydrates with yeast creates ethanol (CAS Reg. No. 64–17–5), which is found in alcoholic drinks.
