Reymond is a rice farmer. Rice farming is the primary source of their family income. This year, he is worried about the rice crop yield because he can observe that the rice plants are not healthy. Then, he found out that this is caused by a pest called rice black bugs.

9-16. How rice black bugs can affect rice farming? Give at least three (3).

- Black bugs remove the sap of the plant. They can cause browning of leaves, deadheart, and bugburn. Their damage also causes stunting in plants, reduced tiller number, and formation of whiteheads. On severe cases, black bugs weaken the plant preventing them from producing seeds.

17-25. Through your knowledge about scientific research, how can you help in providing solution to that problem?​

- By observing the problem, then, do research about the pests and the problem and lastly, create steps on how to get rid of them.

Here is how to get rid of Rice black bugs:

  1. During early infestation, raise the water level in the field for 2−3 days to force the insects to move upwards.
  2. Flood the fields. This can cause higher egg mortality.
  3. After harvest, plow fields to remove remaining insects.
