Sagot :
Compare the following:
1. Digestion in the mouth: Mostly involves mechanical digestion since the teeth helps to grind up the food and reducing the size of large food particles into smaller pieces with the help of salivary amylase.
Digestion in the stomach: Involves chemical digestion in which the foods mixes up with the gastric juices. This is where the proteins are initially digested and the stomach prepares the food for absorption in the small intestine.
2. Villi: Small finger-like projection atttached to the innerwall of the small intestine. Meaning it can be found only on the intestinal walls.
Microvilli: A minute-like projection that can be found on the surfaces of the columnar epithelial cells. Microvilli increases the ability of the cells to absorb substances.
3. Ingestion: A digestive mechanism that occurs in the mouth in which the food are swallowed or ingested for further digestion and absorption.
Absorption: A mechanism in which the food digested from the stomach are absorbed in the inner linings of the small intestine. The nutrients or the substance absorbed by the small intestine are assimilated into to the blood cells which is crucial to perform its metabolic function.
