Both types of books require more than just reading and writing. There must be pictures included that illustrate the story and the characters. It takes longer to write a novel but it allows the author to expand upon his/her character. A picture book writer may choose to use simple text and illustrations instead of full-color images. A novel requires more revision and editing than a picture book. Novels are written in prose whereas picture books are usually written in poetry.
