It is a kind of story that has been handed down from generation to generation, usually word of mouth or oral telling. Folktales are traditional stories which have special features that other narratives do not nor- mally have. The following are the features contained in folktales. FEATURES OF FOLKTALES 1 They originate from the common peo- ple of folk. 5 They embody a community's belief system and contain fundamental human truths that people regard as true even after many cen- turies. 2 They often reflect the values and cus- toms of the culture from which they originate. 6 No matter where it originates, a folktale is used to explain the mysteries of the natura world; to put meaning to people's fears, hopes and dreams; and create order on a apparently chaotic life. The originators of folktales are usually unknown 3 They are used not only to entertain, but also to teach a lesson to the people of the community and to uplift their and their community's identity. 7 Folktales make use of supernatural being who undergo magical transformations
