Different colors have different relative values. The term “value” refers to the lightness or darkness of a color or object. It is easiest to imagine a grayscale image of the color. A color like yellow has a relatively light value while violet is fairly dark. In general terms, when the color wheel is correctly oriented, the colors at the top of the wheel are the lightest in value. As you move down to he bottom of the wheel, the colors become darker in value.
