Answer:

1. Sound is a longitudinal wave which consists of compressions and rarefactions travelling through a medium. Sound wave can be described by five characteristics: Wavelength, Amplitude, Time-Period, Frequency and Velocity or Speed

2. Sound waves actually travel five times faster in water than in air. Underwater those sound waves don't vibrate the ossicles bones in your inner ear. They go straight to the skull bones, vibrating that heavy bone you can touch just behind your ear. Because of that, you can hear higher frequencies underwater

3. People can hear sounds that range from about 20 to about 17,000 hertz. The word that musicians use for frequency is pitch. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the frequency, and the higher the pitch, of the sound. In other words, short waves sound high; long waves sound low.

4. Sound waves enter the outer ear and travel through a narrow passageway called the ear canal, which leads to the eardrum. The eardrum vibrates from the incoming sound waves and sends these vibrations to three tiny bones in the middle ear. These bones are called the malleus, incus, and stapes.
