1. What is the text about?
- The text mainly revolves around the topic of plastic. It covers how we started with using leaves in the olden days and how we found a material that could last longer - plastic! It's much more durable and the things used to create it are abundant. The text also discusses the factors that make some plastics differ from each other, where plastic is used, etc.
2. How is natural plastic different from synthetic plastic material?
- Synthetic plastic can only be made from man-made ingredients. This means that it has to be produced through chemical processes conducted by people. On the other hand, natural plastic can be found in nature. Its ingredients come from animal, vegetable, and mineral sources.
3. How did the commercial use of plastic begin?
- The commercial use of plastic started in the year 1900s. It had an increase in development and in sales when people started using it for their daily needs, and soon enough, plastic was able to become one of the most used materials that were used in commercially available products. Some of these items are airplane windows, clocks, tiles, and food containers.
4. Why is the discovery of plastic important to mankind?
- It's an understatement that plastic has had a significant impact on the way we humans live. It's a cheap and common material so it can be acquired quite easily. We use it in almost all the objects we have (in laptops, book coverings, utensils, etc.). Its discovery has ultimately benefitted mankind for it was able to make our inventions and products to be used more efficiently.
5. How is conductive plastic different from the other types of plastic?
- Conductive plastics differ from other plastics because of their processability (the capacity to be used or processed). And as its name implies, conductive plastics have high electrical conductivity, wherein other plastics have very low conductivity.
6. Do you predict that plastic technology will stay? Why or why not?
- I do think that plastic technology will stay, though I think that it will be slightly different as time goes on. We all evolve, we all find something wrong and do something to try to fix it. Just like in our case currently, plastics have been our world's largest pollutant -- contaminating our lands and water, harming creatures that inhabit those places. I think that eventually, scientists would be able to produce a more sustainable and environmentally safe kind of plastic.
