When you first think of the word “Computer” you most likely think of a laptop or desktop Computer, but there are many other different kinds of computers. For example, the smart phone in your pocket is a computer; your tablet on your desk is a computer. The possibilities are endless, but do you think our reliance on these electronics is getting a little out of hand? For example we can access our bank accounts just by opening an application on your smart phone. That’s crazy! We have the opportunity to store so much of our personal information on these devices which is definitely convenient, but is it a good idea? How does the computer affect us on a daily basis and does it benefit us or cause problems?

Depending on what you need to complete, whether it be an essay or a spreadsheet document computers make these tasks less tedious and frustrating. For example, you have an essay that is due sometime in the near future and you don’t have time to correct the grammatical or spelling errors, the computer will auto detect your wrong spelling or grammatical errors and help you fix them fast. Also, computers give you a large variety of ways you can display the information you are trying to portray. An example of that would be PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a program that gives you many different options to make your message appealing and satisfying. You can change the backgrounds, fonts, text boxes, even the way your slide transitions to the next slide. The possibilities of this program are endless. Also, computers can increase productivity by the kind of computer you use to present your work with. After you have made the best presentation in the history of presentations, you need to prove yourself. You can use your smart phone or tablet to display the information you want to display on the projector or screen without being physically connected to the computer. I don’t know about you but that’s pretty cool. I hope now you can now see how computers increase productivity.
Answer:
Computers were invented years ago, and due to their ability to be able to perform various tasks, they have been highly put to use by human beings. Computers make life easier and due to this they have increasingly been put to use and easily found their way into the lives of people. There are various reasons that led to computers being put to maximum use by people. This is because they enable people to do their work while at home, people are able to socialize with those they have never met, and also contact friends and relatives who are living far. As humans continue to use computers, they get addicted to them, and are unable to lead lives without computers. This is because their whole lives depend and revolve around computers.
The world of today depends heavily on computers and this dependence has both positive and negative impacts. Computers have many benefits, but these benefits also come with negative effects. Various arguments have risen against computers and researchers claim that computers are having negative effects on children. The rate of illiteracy is rising than it was before because students no longer write their assignments. They use the computers to carry out research and work on their assignments instead of independent thinking. Students use the content got from websites to complete their assignments and this discourages learning. This increases the level of illiteracy because learners are deterred from thinking independently. This kills creativity because everything they do is copied.
This might be a small issue to older learners, but younger learners who are practicing on how to read and write will have difficulties. When it comes to spelling young learners will not have any idea on how to spell because they are used to the computer which spells for them. It is important to note that small spellings become difficult for younger learners to memorize. If they did it in writing it would be easier for them to remember. These factors are on the rise and it is recommend for computers to be reserved for older learners, assignments that are long such TOK essays and cannot be written by hand, and for special computer classes.
Conclusively, computers are very important in the lives of humans, but it is essential to reduce over dependence. People should try and reduce the overuse of computers because despite them making life easier, they have as many disadvantages as advantages. It might be difficult for people to note that they are too much dependent on computers, but with time they realized that it is quite dangerous.
