LESSON 1: ADVERB OF MANNER Adverbs of manner are adverbs such as softly and loudly. These adverbs describe in what way and how the action, as being denoted by a verb, is being carried out. These adverbs are sometimes called manner adverbs or manner adverbials. Most often, adverbs of manner appear right after a verb or at the end of a verb phrase. Adverbs of manner are mostly formed by adding -ly to adjectives. However, there are important exceptions for irregular adverbs such as well, challenging, and fast. The placement of the adverbs of manner in a sentence may be flexible, but exactly where they are positioned in a sentence establish their purpose. Based on placement alone, the adverbs of manner may take different meanings
