Compose a personal prayer for people who have been prejudged ,have been discriminated and have experienced biases in life.
A true value revolution would easily lead us to doubt the honesty and equity of much of our past and current policies. We are called to play the role of the Good Samaritan on the side of the road in life, but this is just the first act. One day, we must ensure that the whole Jericho path is transformed so that men and women are not continually beaten and robbed as they travel along life's highway. True compassion is better than a coin tossed to a beggar; it is not haphazard and shallow. Compassion recognizes the need to restructure an edifice that creates beggars. A true value movement will soon be uneasy about the stark difference between poverty and wealth.
Let us pray:
- Ever present God, You called us to be in relationship with one another and vowed to be present wherever two or three are gathered. There are many different people in our community; we come from many different countries and have many different cultures. Open our hearts so that we can be courageous in discovering the jewels of inclusion and diversity within us. Father, Bless us as we work to achieve true racial reconciliation.Open our eyes to all that happens around us that contributes to social injustice.
- Give us the knowledge to understand everything we do, both personally and as a community, that prevents us from recognizing and defending the dignity of all of our brothers and sisters, particularly our brothers and sisters of color who are currently experiencing so much pain. Please give us the grace to dwell on our own acts and inactions that have contributed to this pain. And give us the courage to act to relieve this suffering and put an end to systemic injustice in all its forms.
- God, You have granted all peoples a common origin. It is your desire that they be gathered as one family within yourself. Fill humankind's hearts with the fire of your passion and the need to ensure justice for all. May we ensure freedom for all our brothers and sisters around the world by sharing the positive things you offer us. May division, strife, and war come to an end. Can the dawn of a fully human civilization based on love and peace arrive.
