Sagot :
What particular mindanao instrument you like best? why?
The Kulintang for me is the best instrument in Mindanao.
Kulintang, since it is the finest and most important instrument used by mindanaons. Since Kulintang is a collective of instruments from the southeast, it has passed down from generation to generation, and it can be found as social entertainment at a variety of different occasions. It is seen at big feasts, festive/harvest celebrations, entertaining visiting friends and relatives, and parades.
- Kulintang music is thought to be an ancient practice that predates Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and the West. It is the highest level of gong music attained by Filipinos in the Philippines, and it is said to have existed for centuries in North Maluku.
- Kulintang is a modern term for an ancient musical instrument consisting of a row of short, horizontally-laid gongs that work melodically, accompanied by larger, suspended gongs and drums. Kulintang music may be found as a form of social entertainment at a variety of different occasions. It is seen at big feasts, festive/harvest celebrations, entertaining visiting friends and family, and parades. Kulintang music is also used to accompany ceremonies commemorating important life occasions, such as marriages and Hajj returnees.
- Kulintang is part of the larger unit/stratum of Southeast Asia's "knobbed gong-chime music." It is considered one of the region's three main gong ensembles, along with gamelan of western Indonesia and piphat of Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, and Laos, which use gongs rather than wind or string instruments to hold the ensemble's melodic component.
- Kulintang music, like the other two, is largely orchestral, with many rhythmic sections piled one upon the other. It, too, is based on the pentatonic scale. However, kulintang music varies from gamelan music in many ways, most notably in the way the latter builds melodies within a system of skeletal tones and a predetermined time period of entry for each instrument. The structure of kulintang music is more fluid, and time intervals are non-existent, allowing for more improvisations.
