East Asia or Northeast Asia is the northeastern subregion of Asia, which can be defined in both geographical or ethno-cultural terms. Generally, the modern states of East Asia include China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan, includes high mountains, vast deserts, cold climates, and Pacific waters. The mostly rugged terrain was formed by the collision of tectonic plates. One result of these natural barriers was to limit people's movement and increase their isolation.
The monsoonal climate in East Asia brings hot and rainy summers, giving rise to a great variety of temperate and tropical vegetation. China has the most varied vegetation of any country in the world, with about 30,000 species, excluding mushrooms and mosses.

Are commonly East Asian Values
Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Shinto are common. More western religions like Christianity and Islam are not so common outside of South Korea.
