The benefit lies in the accountability the present generation has towards the next generation, that is to allow the next generation to meet their needs, but the limitation lies in the exclusive focus on resources and economics. I think we need to include the cultural, societal, and political needs of future generations in the mix. The cultural needs include a respect for the attitudes, values and beliefs of people while the societal needs embody a concern for groups different than our own. This brings in genetic screening, and engineering along with xenotransplantation, and the ethical issues. The political needs are founded on how we are governed and I am not sure that existing laws and regulations are sustainable.
